Is the Menopause Movement Course Relevant for You?

We’ve been asked a lot of questions lately about whether the Menopause Movement Course is relevant for certain people, such as men or younger women. The answer is… it depends! Read our article to find out more.

Is the Menopause Movement Course Relevant for You?

The Myth of Relatability

We recently shared a photo on Instagram of a young woman lifting weights, which sparked some debate about relevancy. What has a young woman got to do with menopausal women?

But it’s a myth that we automatically need to be like our client in order to be able to help them. Think about it - there are plenty of male gynaecologists and obstetricians, who are effective without having been a woman or been through childbirth. Similarly, you wouldn’t think a prosthetist had to be missing a limb, or a speech therapist had to have a speech impediment themselves.

So let’s dispense with the myth of relatability straight off the bat! What’s important isn’t age or personal experience, but simply understanding your clients’ needs and a desire to help them the best you can.

The trainer in the photo we shared works with women of all ages and supports pre- and post-natal clients, even without having experienced pregnancy. It’s the same with menopause—any trainer, regardless of age, can be effective with the right knowledge and tools, which the Menopause Movement course provides.

Why Does Menopause Training Matter?

Perimenopause – the stage before menopause - often starting in the early 40s can bring weight gain, mood swings, low energy, aching joints and so much more. Fitness becomes a crucial tool for managing symptoms, so personal and fitness trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, yoga and Pilates teachers etc. need to have a better understanding of menopause's unique challenges.

Declining hormones cause bone loss, muscle weakness, and a slower metabolism, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and heart issues. Tailored workouts—strength training, low-impact cardio, and flexibility exercises—help women manage symptoms, stay strong, and feel energised. The Menopause Movement online course, led by top menopause experts, equips you to grow your business teaching, training and empowering women to thrive through menopause—crucial for their long-term health and wellbeing.

So Who Becomes a Menopause Trainer?

In short, anyone! But let’s look at a couple of case studies before talking about some of the reasons why you may - or may not - want to become a certified menopause specialist Menopause Coach.

Saskia's Story: Teaching Across Generations

Saskia, a 25-year-old ballet dancer and Pilates teacher, leads classes for women over 50. Even though she's much younger than her clients, she gets their needs and limits but knows their potential. Although her clients joke about sticking with Pilates until they look like her, they recognise that the real value lies in Saskia's ability to guide them through changes while helping them hit their fitness goals. It shows that it’s not about being in the same life stage—it's about having the knowledge to support them. Saskia proves that with the right approach, you can make a big impact, no matter your age or life experience.

Menopause Awareness for Male Fitness & Personal Trainers

Many Menopause Specialist trainers are men! By expanding their knowledge in this area and adding menopause training into their toolbox, male trainers can offer more inclusive and supportive environments for their female clients.

A solid understanding of women's health, including menopause, enables male trainers to offer more empathetic, informed, and relevant support. This not only builds stronger client relationships but also increases trust. A young female athlete recently told one of our male associates that she would much rather pick a male coach with menopause training for the sensitivity it demonstrates to female physiology, even though she’s nowhere near menopause herself!

When women feel understood, they're more likely to stick with a trainer and recommend them to others. Ultimately, this broadens the range of clients male trainers can effectively serve, enhancing both their impact and reputation.

Menopause Trainer or Coach - Reasons For and Against

Of course, no matter how many good reasons there are to become a menopause trainer, it’s not necessarily the right path for you. Let’s look at some reasons for and against.

Why Become a Menopause Trainer?

Menopause brings profound physical, emotional, and mental changes that can disrupt daily life. As more women seek solutions to navigate this phase, a surprising gap emerges: Women In Sport research found 84% want to be more active, but many lack the confidence to start, unsure of what’s safe or effective. Another study by healthcare marketing group MYCO showed that over 1000 women a month in the UK are searching Google for a personal trainer who specialises in the menopause.

This makes menopause training a particularly fascinating and rewarding specialism. You are able to make a real difference to the lives of your clients when they need it most, but also work with an underserved and affluent market, growing all the time as more and more women become aware of the benefits that specialised menopause training can bring.

That’s where the Menopause Movement course steps in—designed to empower fitness, wellness, and healthcare professionals who work with this motivated group.

Why You Shouldn’t Become a Menopause Trainer

Whether as a PT or any other career, we have to make decisions about the clients we want to work with and who is the best choice for us. Menopausal women may well be an affluent, motivated and underserved market, but if it’s not where your real passion lies then you’re likely to be unfulfilled and serve your clients badly.

For example, if your real interest lies in working with elite athletes, working with and inspiring young people, or is heavily sport specific - e.g. you want to work with football or netball teams - then it may not be for you (unless you want to work with middle aged women’s teams, of course!)

We’d always encourage anyone to follow their heart. Picture yourself working with menopausal clients, helping them through this stage in their lives, their gratitude when you make a real difference and building a name and reputation in this area. Menopause training is highly rewarding and lucrative, but if you really know it’s not for you, focus your efforts somewhere else!
